Bernard Buys – Chief Instructor
Bernard is Chief Instructor/country representative of IJKA SA. He is ranked 6th Dan and is the holder of an international Class A (Instructor, Examiner and Judge) license. He is the winner of over 120 medals and is a multiple champion in kata and kumite. Bernard has been doing karate for 46 years. He teaches in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
Gene Fourie – President
Gene is President of IJKA SA, a 6th dan and has been doing karate for 55 years. He achieved his Free State, Griqualand West, Northern Transvaal and Mpumalanga colours for karate. He has been running his dojo in Middelburg Mpumalanga for the past 43 years.
Lindie Zuma – Vice-President
Lindie is Vice-President of IJKA SA. She has been doing karate for 3 years, inspired by her 2 sons who are black belts. She is the CEO of a mining company. With commitment and passion for karate, she works alongside our members and leadership to ensure the Association continues to promote the values of discipline, respect and perseverance.
Leon Greyling – Head of Commercial Affairs
Leon Greyling is an entrepreneur, part-time lecturer and ex CEO of investment management businesses. He volunteers as Head of Corporate Affairs for IJKA SA and is the proud father of a 15-year-old son who is a black belt, IJKA SA national champion in his age group, and a National Team member.
Tshepo Mophuting – National Coach
Tshepo Mophuting is currently IJKA National Team coach. He started karate in the Free State in 1996 and achieved Free State and National colours. He obtained his 3rd degree (3rd Dan) black belt in 2022. Tshepo is also currently working towards becoming a chartered accountant.
Christelle Fourie – Chief Referee
Christelle Fourie is currently Chief Referee of IJKA SA. She started her karate career in January 1993 and attained her Godan (5th Dan) in 2019. She has won various competitions and achieved her Mpumalanga, Tshwane and Gauteng colours. She also obtained JKA national colours, thereby representing SA internationally in the African Cup in 2018. She also holds International Instructor, Judge and Examiner qualifications (CDC).
